Boom Sprayer – FULLY BOOKED

Date: Wednesday 3 / Thursday 4 / Friday 5 April

Duration Notes:  The expected duration for the course is one day, however please note this may vary according to factors such as level of experience, modules or attachments selected, or the ratio of instructors to learners.

Introduction:  Gain vital experience operating this key piece of equipment safely with our one-day course.

Overview in brief:

  • It’s designed for anyone who uses vehicle mounted/trailer boom spraying equipment (hydraulic nozzle) as part of their work.

The finer details:

  • Our course is a balanced mix of theory and practical work.
  • You’ll be taught the basics of what the machine is and what it can do.
  • Field work will be followed by a rundown of decontamination and disposal techniques.

Course Sessions:

  • Basics of spray application
  • The working principles of a hydraulic sprayer
  • Preparation of machinery for work
  • Calibration in practice
  • Mixing and filling/essential PPE
  • Field work
  • Sprayer decontamination, disposal of washings and machine storage.

Worth noting:

  • To attend this course you must be able to proficiently drive the particular vehicle(s) used during training.
  • This course runs for two days if you’re a beginner, or one day if you have previous spraying experience.
  • You also should have attended our Safe Use of Pesticides course.

Our course is aimed at anyone using, or looking to use, professional pesticide products in industries like agriculture, horticulture and forestry.

What will be covered?

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:

  • Identify and describe how vehicle mounted spraying equipment works
  • Prepare and set up vehicle mounted/trailed spraying machines
  • Identify and describe how a spraying machine works
  • Choose and use the correct nozzles for any application
  • Set and calibrate the machine for a given application
  • Fill vehicle mounted spraying equipment safely
  • Clean and decontaminate all the equipment safely
  • Service the machine
  • Operate a spraying machine safely and effectively

 


PA1 Safe use of Pesticides – FULLY BOOKED

When: Monday 8 April

Location: Countryside Services – 97 Moy Road, Dungannon, Co. Tyrone, BT71 7DX

Time: 9.00am

Format: 1 full day training followed by an assessment on the same day

Also please bring a passport size photo of yourself on the day of the course.

PPE required on the day: 

  • Gloves – Nitrile, 300mm long, 0.5 mm thick
  • Face shield
  • Type 3 or 4 coveralls
  • Welly boots

Knapsack Sprayer – FULLY BOOKED

Date:  Tuesday 9 / Wednesday 10 April

Introduction: Learn to use this key piece of equipment safely and confidently with our dedicated course.

Overview in brief:

Pesticides are widely used across many land-based industries. But they can be potentially harmful substances.
It’s essential they are handled, applied and stored correctly. Our course will teach you to do just that.

It’s designed for anyone who uses hand-held applicators with a hydraulic nozzle as part of their work.

The finer details

Our course involves a balanced mix of theory and practical work.

We’ll run through pesticide legislation and the key safety issues.

You’ll be taught the basics of what the applicator is and what it can do.

Field work will then be followed by a rundown of decontamination techniques.

Course sessions:

  • Basics of spray application
  • Hygiene and personal protective equipment
  • The working principles of a knapsack
  • Preparation of the applicator for work
  • Nozzles
  • Calibrating a knapsack
  • Mixing, filling and site work
  • Calibration – concentration method
  • Decontamination, tank washing, and storage.

Rodent Management – FULLY BOOKED 

Date: Thursday 11 April

Prerequisites: None

Introduction:  Gain the knowledge required to successfully complete the Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in Rodent Management

Overview in brief:Following changes to the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU) code of best practice, training is no longer acceptable evidence of competence for the purchase of professional rodenticide. People who wish to gain proof of competence will now need to pass a regulated qualification such as the Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in Rodent Management, however in order to successfully pass this assessment, they will still benefit from undertaking training and this course is designed to provide the knowledge required.

 

The finer details:

This is a training only course.

You’ll receive a certificate of attendance once it is completed.

We’ll guide you through the key legislation and safety issues.

You’ll learn about the biology and behaviour of rodents.

Sessions on storage and transportation, disposal and control programmes will also be run.

Following this training you will be prepared to undertake the Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in Rodent Management

 

Who should attend?

This course is for people who undertake management of rodent species in relation to pest control, in domestic, agricultural and business settings. This provides the underpinning knowledge for the regulated qualification, Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in Rodent Management.
